Fall is harvest time – the time where we reap what we’ve sown. It’s also a time for giving. Giving to others is a great way to cultivate a gracious heart, mind, and soul. When we give, we are more grateful for what we receive in life. We appreciate what it means to give and so we also can understand how meaningful it is for others to give to us. For this month, I’ve listed ways to cultivate a giving spirit. I hope they help you enjoy this season and have a bountiful harvest of love and joy.
Here are some ideas for cultivating a harvest of giving:
･ Share your wisdom with others who might benefit from your experience and gifts. Each of us has a “Giving Gift” we were born with and have worked on throughout our lives. But it’s only really valuable when we share it with others. Over the years I have learned how to use dance and my five senses to create personal empowerment. Now, I love sharing my techniques with other women (and men) through public speaking, retreats, and my Sense-ual Woman® online course. Check out what I do to give back, here!
･ Do work for a charity. Even if you’re not sure what your special gift is yet (one of the things we cover in my course), you can always give back through charities that interest you. Whether it’s working with those less fortunate than you, animals, or maybe your local beach cleanup, you will be giving back. And giving back means that you’re acknowledging how lucky you are to have what you have. Gratefulness is the key to a giving spirit!
･ During this holiday season, reach out to friends and family even more than usual. This time of year can be hard on some people. The most suicides happen during the holidays – a very sad fact. So, make sure that you spend some time with people who might really appreciate a friend or loved one right now.
･ Cook for others. Food is a very comforting thing. What better way to enjoy a great harvest than to create amazing edibles from it. If you can’t afford to cook for others, let them cook for you. Sharing food – breaking bread together – is a timeless way to show love and caring for each other. That’s why we make such a big deal about our Thanksgiving or Fall Harvest meals.
･ Start a gift bin. I keep a bin in my closet and throughout the year I add little gifts to it. They can be anything. The point is that whenever a friend or family member has a special day, or even just needs cheering up, I have little thoughtful things I can give them. It’s amazing how much a little gift can cheer someone up. I love it when my friends and family do that for me. It’s great to be able to give back when they need me.
･ The best way to give to others is to be grateful for what you’ve been given. Everyday, I try to think of things I am grateful for in my life. You can even start a blessings jar and write down these grateful things on slips of paper each day. Put one in and pull another out and read it. Then put it back and stir them up again. You can use it anytime, to remind yourself of all that you’ve been given. It’ll motivate you to give to others even more.
･ And last, but not least, give to yourself. Makes sure to do “Me Time.” Giving to ourselves helps us stay grounded and happy. And no one knows what we need more than we do. It’s ok. It’s not selfish. It’s self-full. When we are full in ourselves, we have more to give to others. Give yourself permission to enjoy Me Time and join my next Sense-ual Woman® Retreat on Sunday, January 28th, 2018.
